Artist Biography
Cheryl Gamlin grew up in Portishead, Bristol and lived there until her early twenties. She lived in a bungalow that overlooked the mouth of the Bristol channel. This gave her a love and appreciation of the sea. There were coastal paths and rocky beaches, which she loved visiting. She enjoyed watching the waves and the smell of the salty sea. Thats why she loves painting seascapes and the sea is her favourite subject to paint.
In Cheryl's twenties she went to University at Nene College Northampton, which was part of Leicester University. After University she travelled to many countries and she loved learning about different cultures and explorig the variety of different landscapes and people.
Today she lives in Blackburn, Lancashire. Cheryl has grown to love the North as much as the South. She lives just a few miles from The Ribble Valley, which is considered one of the most beautiful areas of England. The countryside here is simply stunning.
Cheryl is a self taught Artist who studied Art at school, and was always very creative and naturally good at the artistic subjects. Cheryl began painting again in 2021 and has been painting daily since. She is now a full time Artist.
Artist Statement
My Paintings are predominately in Acrylic and Oils. But I do paint in water colours too. I love the Impressionistic style of painting but I also love the details of Realism Painting. My aim is the combine both of these styles into my own style of painting. I call my painting style Impressionistic Realism. I always paint impasto style (where paint is thickly applied) to a canvas, and some paintings I do I call 'Super Impasto' style with incredibly thick paint.
I love nature and I am always looking at the beauty in the landscapes, while I am out and about. I love the countryside and I have a particular love for the sea. So painting Seascapes and Landscapes are my favourite subject.
I also enjoy doing floral paintings, and painting both flowers in the landscape and flowers in vases.
When I am stuck for inspiration and creative flare; I enjoy painting Abstract Paintings. I find these paintings very therapeutic in unlocking my creativity and expressing myself through the paint on the canvas. Most of my Abstract Paintings try to capture feelings and emotions.
My main objective is to paint beauty and to give people a piece of joy and tranquility through one of my paintings. Life is very busy, at times stressful and there are always negative and tragic things happening in this world. I therefore think it is important that we look after our souls with some tranquility and joy in our lives. I feel my art captivates this essense of beauty and happiness.
